Co-founders Marley Hodgson and Dan Long launched MAD Greens in 2004. Their focus is not only salads, but also wraps and paninis, all of which are made to order in front of customers.

MAD Greens made its Arizona debut at Tempe Marketplace in June 2015. In less than a year, it has opened five Valley locations, including its most recent at Dana Park in Mesa last month.

The Hungry Monk in Chandler celebrates its fifth anniversary next Saturday, Aug. 29, and they’re leading up to that day’s party with four other events next week:

Sunday: Four Peaks Brewing Company beer dinner. Five courses for $50. 4:30 p.m. Tickets still available.

Monday: Ice Cream Social with Prescott Brewing Company, Sonoran Brewing, Historic Brewing Company, and Barrio Brewing Co. Four different beer ice creams (Achocolypse triple chocolate, Mocha Java coffee chunk, White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl, and Pie Hole Cherry Vanilla) with corresponding beers on tap. 5 p.m.

Wednesday: SanTan Summer Fiesta featuring beer-inspired Southwestern food specials and Mr. Pineapple and Strawberry Wit margaritas. 5 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 27: Grand Canyon Pilsner promotion with the Grand Canyon Brewing Company. 5 p.m.

Saturday Aug. 29: 5-Year Anniversary Party with many rare beer tappings (see list) and special BBQ menu. All day.

The weekly five-course dinners, hosted by chef Romeo Taus and his wife, Janice, in a private dining room, typically highlight a rotating selection from the regular menu at Romeo’s Euro Cafe in Gilbert.

Aug. 6 “Taste of Romeo’s” menu:

  • Foccacia De La Provincia: Open-faced foccacia bread with fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, garlic, EVOO and thinly sliced portabello mushrooms.
  • Mediterranean Salad: Hearts of artichoke and palm with roasted pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, scallion, avocado, romaine, lemon vinaigrette, and almonds.
  • Sherry Cranberry Pork (pictured): Pork tenderloin, cranberries, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, roasted red pepper, green onions, and rosemary.
  • Tortellini Gianni: Italian sausage, cheese-filled tortellini, scallions, fresh garlic, mushrooms, and sun-dried tomatoes in marsala cream sauce.
  • Mocha Espresso Brownies: Rich chocolatey brownies spiked with Greek coffee, Kahlua, and walnuts.

Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $27 per person plus tax and tip. Add five wine tastes for $10. RSVP: 480-962-4224.

Just a few seats still remain for this season’s kickoff of Chef Off!, a series of friendly competitions between East Valley chefs in the form of collaborative dinners.

Defending champion Romeo Taus (pictured on right) of Romeo’s Euro Cafe in Gilbert travels to El Palacio in Chandler to take on Anthony Serrano (left) on Monday.

Each chef will prepare three dishes to be paired with a craft beer from The Perch in Chandler. The secret ingredient is pork, and the dinner theme is Southwestern.

For $55, diners will get all six dishes, plus beers and dessert, and vote for the winner.

The dinner starts at 6 p.m. RSVP: 480-802-5770.
